🥋How to be more disciplined?

1 - Create routines, rituals, habits in your life and stick with them.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit" - Aristotle

Routines are a powerful tool to make you adopt a new behaviour.

This is what you learned to do when you are learned how to walk, cycle and drive.

Now, these actions are natural and easy for you, but at some point, it was your goal.

"When I finish..., I will do ..."

Having a defined moment to do your actions will dramatically help you to execute them.

example: Here is my morning routine.

When I wake up, I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth.

When I finish brushing my teeth, I take a cold shower.

When I finish my cold shower, I meditate.

When I finish meditating, I practice yoga.

When I practice yoga, I go and have breakfast.

What routines could you put in place?

2 - Challenge yourself to do something uncomfortable every day.

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone"

When you challenge yourself you challenge your ego.

You decide not to let the voice in your head let you down. You discipline yourself to do something harder than yesterday.

Being too comfortable is stopping you to grow. When you are uncomfortable you are usually doing something new, or doing something for the first time.

This is when you can learn the most.

examples:

- Go to work cycling instead of taking your car.

- Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.

- Go to bed 30 minutes earlier.

- Take a challenging class.

- List new skills you know you would like to learn: dancing class, new language, taking a martial art class.

How could you flirt more with the edge of your comfort zone?

3 - Learn to delay the reward and enjoy the process.

"The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards is the indispensable prerequisite for success" - Brian Tracy

When we delay the gratification, we learned to appreciate it, even more, the journey.

It is like hiking.

If someone drops you at the top of the mountain with a helicopter you will have a beautiful view.

If you hike to the top of the mountain you will enjoy much more than a beautiful view because you earned it, you went through the difficult journey to get there.

examples:

- Can you wait 5 minutes more to finish your task before checking your phone?

- Can you exercise for 5 minutes before having breakfast?

- Can you meditate for 5 minutes before going to sleep?

What reward could you delay getting?
